Somewhere Else to Go
Recovered from the Geneva Reconstruction Archive, 2048. Found sewn into the lining of a coat.
Cambridge, 2030. Owen can’t pay a deposit, so when Julian Vale offers him a room for nothing, he takes it. The house is warm, the suppers are long, and before every meal Vale’s wife gives thanks for those who keep watch while we sleep.
Then Felix asks the wrong question and loses his room. Tess finds a list with Owen’s name on it. And a week after Tess disappears, she calls him, and knows something she couldn’t possibly know.
